This extensive collection of imagery offers a raw documentation of the UK’s 1990s rave scene, captured between the late '90s and early 2000s. Shot entirely on film using classic medium-format cameras, including TLR, Bronica, Mamiya, and Hasselblad, these photographs offer insight into the underground world of youth-led dance culture.
Armelle Burke, equipped with analogue gear, enjoyed all-night dance parties and outdoor raves, capturing the energy of a subculture that defined a generation. The collection includes legendary parties hosted by sound systems such as Crossbones, Random Sounds, and Headfuk, with iconic locations like the Stratford fridge graveyard, Stert Beach rave during the Golden Jubilee, the Tea Building in Shoreditch, and the May Day protest of 1999 in London.
Soon to be exhibited as a gallery projection, this body of work is a nostalgic tribute and cultural archive, preserving the anarchic spirit and freedom of the rave era in its most authentic form.
